When Landon Donovan Went Indoor

The American soccer legend brought his brilliance to the MASL

Some very famous soccer players who made their names on the outdoor pitch found their way to the indoor game later in their careers – among them is this luminary of the United States soccer history. His vision in small spaces unlocked the Sockers' offense, allowing him to rack up an astonishing 9 assists in just two playoff games.

While Donovan’s time on the arena turf lasted only a handful of games, its impact resonated far beyond the box score. He brought a surge of energy, sold-out crowds, and a renewed national respect to the MASL. He proved that the core traits that made him an outdoor legend—unmatched soccer IQ, spatial awareness, and elite passing precision—were entirely transferable to the indoor game.
